What are Zero Emission Zones and what rules apply there?
These are areas within municipalities where you may enter only if your van or truck does not emit harmful substances. This means that vehicles powered by diesel, petrol, or LPG are not allowed to enter these zones. Electric and hydrogen vehicles are always allowed to enter.
Between 2025 and 2028, 29 municipalities will have a zero-emission zone (also called a ZE zone).
Most cities will activate the zone starting in 2025, but the exact date may vary by municipality. Therefore, make sure to check which start date applies in the municipality where you work or regularly visit.
Rules for vans and trucks
The rules for accessing zero-emission zones apply to both existing and new vehicles. For existing delivery vans, access to the zero-emission zone depends on the emission class. The higher the emission class, the lower the emission of harmful substances such as CO2 and particulate matter.
All new delivery vehicles registered from January 1st, 2025, must be zero-emission. So if you buy a company vehicle in 2025 or later, that vehicle must not emit any harmful substances. Even if you order it now and receive it in 2025, the vehicle must be zero-emission in order to enter the zones.
